Hynds Pōkeno — Project Gemstone

A manufacturing facility at Pōkeno, delivered by Mahoe Construction for Stuart Property and Hynds Pipes Limited.

The programme was driven by the arrival of new manufacturing machinery. Getting the building ready required close coordination between design and construction, with decisions made promptly and a clear understanding of what needed to happen on site.

Pete has been responsible for the project as a whole, chairing the design process and managing delivery on site. His role has covered design coordination, budget management, procurement, programming, subcontractor management and quality oversight. That continuity has kept design decisions closely connected to their cost and practical implications for the build.

Working with the designers and engineers, Pete drove the development of a design that met the facility's requirements while finding opportunities to simplify construction and remove unnecessary cost.

The scope brought together civil works, structural steel, precast concrete, roofing, cladding and building services. With an operating Hynds facility next door, access and construction activities also needed careful planning.

The seven-week design period and twelve-week build were a combined effort across the client, consultants and subcontractors, with Mahoe taking responsibility for bringing the work together. The project reflects the way we like to work: a close client relationship, practical input from the outset and clear responsibility throughout delivery.
